    • Esther 5:14

If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of the Jewish people, you will not prevail against him but will surely fall before him.

    Context

After Esther invites the king and Haman to a banquet, Haman goes home joyful but becomes enraged when he sees Mordecai refusing to bow. He recounts his honor and riches to his wife and friends, and they respond with this prediction about his fate relative to Mordecai.

    Fulfillment
    • complete

      Fulfilled in

      Esther 7:9-10

The prediction is fulfilled when Haman is ultimately executed on the very gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. Esther 7:9-10 records that Haman was hanged on the gallows that he had built for Mordecai—an explicit reversal of Haman's intended plot.

    Theological significance

This prophetic warning highlights themes of divine providence and reversal: those who plot evil against God's people are turned back upon themselves. It underscores God's sovereignty in protecting His people and bringing about justice through the unfolding of events, even when God’s name is not spoken in the narrative.
