The Suffering Servant is depicted as one who is despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows acquainted with grief. He bears the iniquities of others, is wounded for transgressions, and by his stripes, healing is brought. This figure is often understood in Christian theology as a prophecy of Jesus Christ, who fulfills this role through His crucifixion and resurrection.
