Overview
Jeremiah Chapter 41 recounts the tragic events following the fall of Jerusalem and the assassination of Gedaliah, the appointed governor by the Babylonians. After the destruction of the city, Gedaliah encourages the remaining people to stay in the land and serve the Babylonians, assuring them of safety. However, Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, conspires against Gedaliah and kills him along with the Jews and Chaldeans who were with him at Mizpah. The chapter further describes how Ishmael takes captive a group of people, including the king's daughters, intending to escape to the Ammonites.
