Psalms 96
World English Bible
WEB1Sing to Yahweh a new song! Sing to Yahweh, all the earth. 2Sing to Yahweh! Bless his name! Proclaim his salvation from day to day! 3Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples. 4For Yahweh is great, and greatly to be praised! He is to be feared above all gods. 5For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but Yahweh made the heavens. 6Honor and majesty are before him. Strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. 7Ascribe to Yahweh, you families of nations, ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength. 8Ascribe to Yahweh the glory due to his name. Bring an offering, and come into his courts. 9Worship Yahweh in holy array. Tremble before him, all the earth. 10Say among the nations, “Yahweh reigns.” The world is also established. It can’t be moved. He will judge the peoples with equity. 11Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice. Let the sea roar, and its fullness! 12Let the field and all that is in it exult! Then all the trees of the woods shall sing for joy 13before Yahweh; for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, the peoples with his truth.

Overview
Psalms 96 is a beautiful hymn that calls all of creation to worship the Lord. The psalmist begins by inviting the earth to sing a new song to the Lord, proclaiming His salvation day after day. This call to worship emphasizes the greatness of God, as He is described as being worthy of praise above all gods, for the idols of the nations are mere creations, while the Lord made the heavens. The psalmist encourages the people to ascribe glory and strength to the Lord, recognizing His majesty and splendor in the beauty of holiness. This chapter serves as a reminder of God's sovereignty and the joy that comes from worshiping Him.
The psalm then shifts to a prophetic declaration of God's coming judgment. It proclaims that the Lord will come to judge the earth with righteousness and truth, bringing justice to the nations. This anticipation of divine judgment is not just a warning but also a source of hope, as it assures believers that God will set all things right. The psalm concludes with a call for all creation, including the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the fields, to rejoice at the coming of the Lord. This chapter beautifully encapsulates the themes of worship, creation, and divine justice, encouraging us to celebrate God's glory and anticipate His righteous reign.
In summary, Psalms 96 invites us to join in the cosmic chorus of praise, recognizing the Lord's majesty and the hope of His coming judgment. It reminds us that our worship is not only a response to God's greatness but also a proclamation of His salvation to the world. #Psalms #Worship #Creation #Judgment #Salvation
