Abram is called by God to leave his country and go to a land that God will show him. God promises to make Abram a great nation, bless him, and make his name great. Abram's journey marks the beginning of the covenant relationship between God and the people of Israel.
Wife of Abram and matriarch.
Sarai accompanies Abram on his journey to Canaan. Her role is significant as she is part of the promise that Abram will become a great nation, although her barrenness at this point presents a challenge to the fulfillment of God's promise.
Ruler of Egypt who interacts with Abram.
Pharaoh takes Sarai into his house, believing her to be Abram's sister. God intervenes by sending plagues on Pharaoh's house, leading to Sarai's release and Abram's departure from Egypt.
