Levitical Cities

Levitical cities were designated cities in ancient Israel where the Levites, the priestly tribe, lived and served. These cities were established to provide the Levites with a place to dwell and to facilitate their role in the religious life of Israel.

The Levites were set apart for service in the tabernacle and later the temple, and their cities were strategically located throughout Israel to ensure that they could fulfill their duties and teach the people.
